Pekin veya Peking, Çin’in başkenti ve Şanghay’dan sonra ülkenin ikinci büyük metropol alanıdır. Merkezî yönetim tarafından,
doğrudan yönetilen belediye olarak sınıflandırılan kent, kuzeyde, batıda, güneyde Hebei iline; güneybatıda Tientsin iline
komşudur. Pekin ayrıca Çin’in dört büyük başkentinden biridir.

Başkent olmasının yanı sıra, kültürel ve eğitim açısından da ülkenin başkentliğini yapmaktadır. Şehirde 90’dan fazla üniversite
bulunmasından dolayı şehrin eğitim düzeyi oldukça yüksektir.

Pekin’de dünyanın en eski yerleşim yerleri bulunmaktadır ve dünyanın en eski başkentlerinden biri olarak anılır.
