Kyoto, Japonya’nın Kyoto prefektörlüğünün merkezi ve en büyük şehridir. Şehrin nüfusu yaklaşık 1,5 milyondur. 794-1868
yılları arasında ülkenin başkenti olup bin yıllık başkent olarak anılmaktadır. Kyoto, Osaka ve Kobe ile birlikte Keihanshin
metropolitan alanını oluşturur.
