Male, Maldivler Cumhuriyetinin başkenti. Ülke ticaretinin de merkezi olan şehrin 2004’teki nüfusu 81.647’dir. Male 26 Aralık
2004’te Hint Okyanusu’nda meydana gelen depremden sonra oluşan tsunamide büyük zarar görmüş ve şehrin üçte ikisi sular
altında kalmıştır.
Male monarşinin hüküm sürdüğü yıllarda surlarla çevrili iken sonrasında bu surlar yıktırılmış. Şehir gitgide değişerek daha
modern bir hal almıştır.
Dar sokakları ile ünlü olan şehrin nüfusunun büyük bir çoğunluğu Müslüman. Maldivler’e bağlı adalarda turistik bir hayat
yaşanırken burada daha muhafazakar bir yaşamın izlerini görebilirsiniz. Male

Male was severely damaged by tsunami after the earthquake in the Indian Ocean on December 26, 2004, and two thirds of the city was
inundated.
While it was a place surrounded by walls during the reign of Male monarchy, then these walls were destroyed. The city is changing and
becoming more modern.
