Yunanistan’ın en önemli sembolü olan Akropolis, yüksek bir kayanın tepesinde bulunan oldukça büyük bir yapı. Mimari ve
tarihi açıdan oldukça önemli olan yapı, çok sayıda antik yapı kalıntılarına da ev sahipliği yapıyor. 152 m yüksekliğe sahip alan,
M.Ö. 3.000’den günümüze kadar gelen kalıntılar arasında bulunuyor.
Yunanca’da yüksek anlamına gelen “Akros” ve şehir anlamına gelen “Polis” sözcüklerinden türetilmiş bir kelimedir. Kelimenin
tam anlamıyla da şehrin en yüksek yerine inşa edilirdi.
Eski antik şehirlerin en yüksek tepesinde bulunan Akropolis içinde idari, askeri ve dini yapılar yer alırdı. Etrafı kale gibi çevrili
olan akropolislerin askeri ve dini açıdan da yüksekte konumlanması gibi sebepleri vardı. Bunlar arasındaki en meşhur olan
ise Atina Akropolisi idi.
Acropolis
Acropolis, the most important symbol of Greece, is a very large building on top of a high rock. The building, which is very important in terms
of architecture and history, is also home to many ancient ruins. The 152 m high area is among the ruins from 3,000 BC to the present day.
It is derived from the Greek words ‘Akros’, which means high, and ‘Polis’, which means city. It was literally built in the highest place in the
city.
Located on the highest hill of the ancient ancient cities, the Acropolis contained administrative, military and religious buildings. There
were reasons for the acropolis to get themselves located at a high place, which was surrounded like a castle such as the military and
religious reasons. The most famous of these was the Acropolis of Athens.
